Country / Place of origin: China

History: The Pekin Duck is one of the earliest domesticated ducks. It was originally bred from the Mallard Duck in China and is primarily used for egg and meat production. The Pekin Duck was first imported into the U.S. in the late 1800’s, and quickly became the most popular duck breed used for meat. The Pekin Duck's easy going personality has also made it a popular pet.
