Scientific name: Gallus gallus domesticus

Country / Place of origin: United States

History: In the early 1900’s the New Hampshire Agricultural Experiment Stations sought to create a Rhode Island Red chicken that produced more meat that matured faster. This resulted in the creation of the New Hampshire standard breed. There is also a smaller New Hampshire bantam breed.
