Eclectus Parrots
The eclectus parrots is not only a beautifully coloured bird, but is very intelligent too. It is fast rivaling the African Grey with it's ability to have conversations with their owners. Once the Eclectus reaches 1 year old it teaches itself words & phrases by observing the family home & speech very carefully. This can also make it vulnerable to saying things it should not be saying. The Eclectus can hear a word once & repeat it perfectly. It is also capable of picking up the persons voice & tone who is talking to the bird, other parrot screetches & animal noises that it hears.

The Eclectus is a family bird. They thrive on being a part of the family & although they do choose a 'mate' within the family, they do not neglect or attack the rest of the family as other parrot species would once matured. They demand equal time from ALL family members. They also include any other animal in the home as a part of their family & often enjoy their company. Eclectus parrots are very curious birds which can also get them into a lot of trouble.

A healthy Eclectus that has been taught to play as a baby is very energetic & active. They're lively & enterataining. they can spend hours rummaging through their own toy box playing with their toys, swinging & hanging upside down in cages & on perches. Eclectus parrots require macaw size cages, toys boxes & a large play gym.

Seasonal aggression unfortunately gives female Eclectus parrots a bad rep. Not all females eclectus parrots are aggressive & many people today are starting to find this out. Many people are also starting to discover that the male Eclectus parrot can also go through seasonal aggression & lash out at their humans. Luckily, the Eclectus parrots hormones are usually short lived so is their agression that comes from hormones.

Although the Eclectus can easily entertain themselves they still require human attention on a daily basis.

Yes mine is still very playful, although he does prefer rummaging through my makeup drawer rather than his own toy box! lol
