User profile: My name is Amanda.  I've been involved in rescue since 1992, having run my own no-kill foster-based pet rescue since 2000. Needless to say I have a lot of animal experience under my belt and I love to share, educate, and promote responsible pet ownership and care.

Sensitive and needy...
Posted December 22, 2009 22:42
Red bellied piranhas do best in schools. With proper care they can get very large, so a very large (100+ gallon) aquarium is a must. They are very sensitive fish and require a heater and a very good filtration system. They're also very shy. ...

Feed Carefully

These are cute little fish at most pet stores, and a lot of people don't realize they get so big (think dinner plate size or bigger) or live so long (18-20+ years with proper care). They're not going to be able to stay in a 10, 20, 30, or even ...

Not a beginner fish!
Posted December 21, 2009 23:52
Neon tetras are one of the most recognized aquarium fish in the US. They are brightly colored, readily available, affordable and community friendly. They do best in large groups, and should never be kept in groups smaller than 3-5 fish. Neon ...

Mylei
Posted December 21, 2009 04:07
Mylei spent six years as a breeding dog for a backyard puppy mill. When the owners thought she was pregnant again and didn't want to "deal with" dobie pups, they gave (or sold?) her to another backyard puppy mill. When it turned out that she wasn't pregnant, they wanted to dump her as quickly...

Joey

Joey was left in a box on my doorstep (I run a rescue) with his two brothers when he was just 4-5 weeks old. He was the biggest of the kittens and had long orange tabby fur. Joey was the leader of the group, always the one to be followed, the one the other two looked to before making any deci...

Bella

Bella was left in a box on my doorstep (I run a rescue) with his two brothers when he was just 4-5 weeks old. He was born without a tail (not even a nub), so I labeled him as a manx, though his exact genetics are unknown. At first we thought that Bella was a girl, so he got a girl name. It was...
