User profile: First up: My profile photo is of Suka*, my Border Collie bitch. Technically, she's a mix, but her behaviors are pure BC - If I had the time to refine her herding skills, she'd likely qualify for registry on merit. She's a jackpot dog, and goes with our family pretty much anywhere we can get away with taking her, and few places where we're pushing the limits, too! Now, me, whom you don't see (and shouldn't want, either!) - I'm a middle-aged father, owner of a variety of animals over my life, and in close proximity to many more. Between my veteran wife, and my Navy-brat pair of kids, we've been around the block a time or two, and seen a lot. My family (and my in-laws) have always kept a wide variety of animals for companionsip or working; Horses, dogs, sheep, waterfo...

Lovely, loving dogs - supported from conception to grave.
Posted August 25, 2009 09:12
I've long known of Guardian Kennels, through the proprietor’s active presence in the breed club and on the breed club fora. I've been impressed by both the visual qualities of her dogs (dramatic plush coats with noble profiles!), and have been e...

Puppy-mill dog - All was not lost!
Posted July 07, 2009 11:17

Rescue work: It's not 'all dogs, all the time!'
Posted July 09, 2009 00:49
Transport run this weekend past... Not a long one, either. Up into Pennsylvania a ways on Saturday, then back south into Delaware, and then a bit further into Maryland. OK, so I didn't reach the farm in the early AM as I'd originally planned, but this was still a good thing - Bringing a pair of...

How to create a monster...
Posted July 09, 2009 00:33
Monster Creation 101:Introduce dog to family, observe and chortle with evil glee as wife, who swears she's not a dog person, becomes infatuated. Giggle as children also become infatuated. Ignore signs of own infatuation. Not possible - I'm an adult, and a rescuer, to boot - I'm above canine man...

It's a Trap! Or - How Suka joined the family
Posted July 09, 2009 00:28
My sheep-herding sister, blast her EeeEEeevil soul, long had a nefarious plot to get me into the BC world. Hesitently, and with resistence, I was pulled in step by step - First reading BC-related boards, then posting there, then doing rescue work, and finally... A BC of my own. OK, maybe Suka'...
