Chickens

Traditionally, the backyard chicken was as common as the cow, goat and vegetable garden. For centuries most families raised chickens for their meat and eggs. However, with the increasing urbanization of life in the 20th century, keeping chickens at home became less common. Fortunately, today, with a growing interest in local foods and the preservation of heritage poultry breeds, backyard chickens are once again gaining popularity.
