Scorpions

For most people, the words “scorpion” and “pet” are not used in the same sentence, but in fact, scorpions have been popular exotic pets for quite some time. For someone who can’t have a dog, cat, or other animal that requires a lot of space, a scorpion can be an interesting alternative. Scorpions are hardy creatures and can live many years in captivity if cared for properly. There are 1,500 different species of scorpions, so there is a scorpion out there for everyone, whether you’re a beginner or an experienced invert-keeper looking for a “challenge.” The most common species can easily be found at pet stores, reptile shows, and through online dealers.
 
Of course, scorpions aren't pets for everyone and they do require mature, responsible owners. Scorpions have stingers and some species have venom that is more powerful than a bee sting. Some scorpions even have venom which can be lethal. Scorpions also pinch with their front claws if given the chance.
 
Scorpions are beautiful creatures and are very interesting to observe. They are relatively inexpensive and require very little maintenance. They are great display pets and can also be a wonderful learning tool for children. They may not be cuddly, furry, or do tricks for their owners, but they still make fascinating and unique pets for the person looking for something different.
