MY ACCOUNT

Why do I need to register?
You can browse RightPet without registering as a member. However, you need to register to submit reviews and recommendations, add stories, photos, videos, and to create a “pack of friends”. Registration is a way to ensure that the reviews and recommendations on the site are genuine.

How do I change my basic account information?
To edit your profile or to change your member settings (including your member name), sign in and click the “My RightPet” link that appears at the top of any page. Click the “Member settings” tab to go to the page where you can edit any of your current settings.

How do I change my email address?
Your email address and password are found in the Member settings page under “My RightPet”. To change your email address, just enter the new one and click “Update settings” at the bottom of the page. When you change your email address you will need to confirm the change by clicking the link in the confirmation email which you will receive.

Who can see my name?
Your member name is how you are identified on RightPet. You can change your member name whenever you like by going to your Member settings page. The only time your real name will be displayed to non RightPet members is if you forward them one of your RightPet reviews; “Tell a friend” about a page on RightPet; or send someone an invitation to join the site.

Can I register at RightPet under multiple accounts?
Please, no ;-). In order to maintain the trust that comes with genuine user reviews and recommendations, we require that no one registers at the site under more than one single RightPet profile. This is to prevent anyone from submitting multiple times on the same type of pet, pet business or service. When we discover that a single person is using RightPet under multiple accounts, we will close all profiles but the original or most authentic one.

How do I unsubscribe from emails?
To unsubscribe from email alerts, either click the “unsubscribe” button on the bottom of the email, or change the alert setting to “Off” on the RightPet page you are following. You can edit your alerts by going to your Member settings page, and clicking "Manage my email alerts". To unsubscribe from other emails such as private messages from other members; pack invitations; and periodic emails from RightPet, remove the check marks from the boxes on you Member settings page.

How do I cancel my RightPet membership?
To cancel your RightPet membership, please click here.

USING THE SITE

What is my “Pack”?
Your “Pack” is our cutesy way of saying “your friends”. As in any social networking site, your friends can be anyone you wish, but typically are either people you know in the real world, or are individuals you’ve met on RightPet and who you feel you have something in common with.

How do I invite friends?
The more reviews and recommendations we can gather from pet owners, the more interesting and helpful the “overall recommendation” for each animal breed / species, and business, will be. Collectively, we have great wisdom to share with each other.

To invite your friends to join your pack, click on “Invite friends” on the right side of the green bar at the top of every page. Then, enter their email addresses, or select your friends from other social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace. We've already created an invitation message for you, but feel free to change and personalize it.  The invitation will automatically contain your first and last name as entered in your RightPet account settings, and will contain your email address in the "From:" line. When you're finished, just click "Invite".

The email invitation will include a link that brings your friend to RightPet. If they accept your invitation, they'll automatically appear in your Pack.

What does "Yes, this review is helpful" mean?
By clicking "Yes, this review is helpful" under another member’s review or recommendation, you are helping the RightPet community sort out which reviews are the more informative and helpful.

What are my “Helpful points”?
Every time another member clicks "Yes, this review is helpful" under one of your reviews you get one point. Your “helpful score” is the total number of times other members have said your reviews are helpful.

How do I remove photos I have uploaded?
To get rid of a photo you don't want, click on your name in the upper right corner of any page (this will take you to your profile page). Then, under "My Pet photos", click "View all photos". You will then see each photo, and there will be a "delete" button under each. Delete any you don't want.

How do I remove videos I have uploaded?
To get rid of a video you don't want, click on your name in the upper right corner of any page (this will take you to your profile page). Then, under "My Pet videos", click "View all videos". You will then see each video, and there will be a "delete" button under each. Delete any you don't want.

REVIEWS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

What makes a great review of an animal?
The best reviews share your candid personal experiences – both the good and the bad. They go into detail and clearly explain what you liked and disliked.  The more eloquent and honest you can be, the more useful the review will be for others.

Can I review a breed / species of animal more than once?
Yes, you can. You can actually do one review for each individual animal you have owned. So, for example, if you have had three Labrador Retrievers, you can do a review for each of them if you want.

Can I recommend a business / service more than once?
No, you can only do one recommendation for each pet business / service you have used.

How do I edit a review / recommendation I have submitted?
You can edit a review or recommendation whenever you like. Just click “My RightPet” in the upper right of any page once you are signed in (to go to your profile page), and then click “edit” under the review / recommendation you want to change.

Can I recommend a business I'm connected to?
Please, no. If you are personally or professionally connected to a business, please don’t recommend them. We ask that you don’t recommend businesses you are involved with because we want to make sure RightPet is an objective, trustworthy community based on unbiased personal experiences. But feel free to let your customers know about your page on RightPet, and encourage them to share their own positive experiences.

Can I post a negative recommendation if I had a bad experience with a  pet business?
We've made a conscious decision to only allow positive recommendations of businesses / services. This is because we feel it is the high road to take. We are all looking for the best places to help with our pets, so why not focus only on the positive, and build a list of the best pet businesses and organizations?  Not only does emphasizing the positive result in a more respectful, supportive community, but it eliminates the ever-present problem of bogus negative comments, which are so common on all ratings websites.

Does RightPet ever remove reviews or recommendations?
RightPet doesn’t edit community content, but we will remove reviews/recommendations (and will typically email the member to let them know) which don’t abide by the site’s Terms of Service and Posting Guidelines. In addition, to ensure the trustworthiness of RightPet ratings we have a system which automatically suppresses a very small number of ratings/reviews which are submitted by users who aren't active members of our community.

BUSINESS OWNERS; CLUB OFFICERS

I own / work with a business / club which has been recommended. Can I comment on the recommendation?
Yes, you can. In order to officially respond to a recommendation, you need to be the owner or employee of the business, or be an officer of a club / association, and to have "claimed" your page.

How do I "claim" ownership of my business / club page?
To “claim” a pet business or club page which is listed on RightPet, click “Update this info / claim ownership” on the page. Then, in the “I am” section, select either: “The owner of this business”; "An employee of this business"; or "Club officer". Make any corrections to your name, address and contact information; upload photos and / or videos if you wish; answer the basic questions about your business / club; and write up a description.  Enter your contact information at the bottom of the page and then submit. After we contact you to confirm your involvement with the business/club, your RightPet member name will be connected with your business / club listing (you will have "claimed" it).

I tried to claim ownership of my page and add some info but the site would only let me "become a member". How do I go about adding information on my business?
You have to become a member of the site first before you can claim your page. Joining is easy and quick (it doesn’t ask much). The reason we require users to join first is that otherwise we might have people randomly claiming to be the owners of various businesses, and we’d have no way of contacting them to see if they were legitimate or not.

So, once you’ve joined, just click the “Update info / claim ownership” button and fill out the form, and you will be able to claim your listing.

Why should I claim my business / club on RightPet?
We hope you decide to use your free RightPet listing to let others know about your business / club. You can use it as your primary web page if you like. It is a place where you can promote your business / club - updating activities, sales, news - and can gather valuable customer feedback in the form of user recommendations / testimonials. You can also start your own forum discussions, and comment on user recommendations. You can upload photos and videos. Treat it as your own interactive web community.
