Devon Rex

Country / place of origin:
 United Kingdom

History: The Devon Rex was originally discovered in Buckfastleigh, in Devon, England. In 1960, a curly coated male kitten was part of a litter born to a tortoiseshell and white cat that had mated with an unknown male. Initially, this kitten (amusingly named Kirlee) was thought to have descended from a Cornish Rex bloodline, but later was affirmed as having genetic mutation, different from the Cornish mutation, that produced its curly fur. The Devon Rex has been carefully bred to American and British Shorthairs to enlarge and strengthen the gene pool.
